Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake boosts sustainability on and off the track with Kick Out Plastic

Kick Out Plastic, the growing Spanish-based global initiative which is using the power and reach of high profile sports to foster a significant reduction in the everyday use of plastics by consumers, has made a significant step into the world of F1 motor racing by becoming the official sustainability partner of Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake. Kick Out Plastic was set up in 2021 to harness the power of sport to deliver positive messages, encouraging fans and participants at all levels, to make simple, positive changes to eliminate single-use plastics as much as possible in daily life.

The not for profit is growing a network of influential ambassadors and teams to spread positive messages and encourage simple, responsible choices especially where containers and packaging are concerned. Already Kick Out Plastic have enthusiastic ambassadors spreading the word in Football, Tennis, Sailing, Skiing, Hockey and Surfing.

“Being able to partner the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake is especially exciting on many different levels. As well as gaining visibility, building our brand and reaching a new key global sports audience, we are able to add to Formula One’s s general drive to become a net zero carbon sporting spectacle by 2030. While playing a role of Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake’s own sustainability strategy we can cross fertilise and transfer different ideas and successes from other sports and influencers.” says Lars Bocking, President of Kick Out Plastic.

“We are making great progress in all the sports we work in. For example, in grass roots football we have seen thousands of young school age players adopt their own reusable drinking bottles in part thanks to the influence of key players. That means tens of thousands of single use bottles eliminated. And the kudos of being seen to be making a simple responsible choice spreads rapidly across peer groups. It is exciting and inspiring to see. We have always believed in sport as a catalyst for positive change.”

On the side of the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake and its commitment to reducing its ecological impact, which since 2021 already translated into reducing using single-use plastics in the team’s hospitality areas, now all Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake drivers and team members will be using reusable drinking bottles provided by Kick Out Plastic, visibly eliminating the usage of single-use plastics trackside.

Alessandro Alunni Bravi, Managing Director of Sauber Group and Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake representative: “We are delighted to welcome Kick Out Plastic on board. Sustainability is a topic of fundamental importance for our team, as well as for the Sauber Group, and for this reason we are committed to social and ecological responsibility: we don’t just exist in a bubble, but we are part of the cultural, social, and environmental fabric of our planet. Together with Kick Out Plastic, we pledge to make our Formula One operations even more sustainable, facing up the challenges of climate change and promoting an eco-friendly future.”
